Cable Removal - Electrical and Telephone - Lead Covered

The company has four AMCV Cable Chopping or Scrapping machines that are truck-mounted.  They are designed to remove and chop cable to 4 1/4 inches in diameter at ninety feet per minute.  The machines are used for power or telephone cable removal and are environmentally friendly to the operator and his crew as well as the public.  The cable is removed using a bull wheel, a cam, and a guillotine as pulling points.  As the cable comes out of the underground structure, it is wet down by a Hudson sprayer; the cable goes immediately into a tube that extends to the vehicle that will be used to remove the cable from the jobsite.  In this way, the crew and the public are protected from the lead covering that is used on some kinds of telephone and power cable.

The crew is trained in confined space entry, and the foreman is trained and carries a Competent Person card.  The crew is equipped with heat scan equipment and personal protective equipment.  The personnel are tested for lead exposure and are removed from the job if this becomes a problem.  This rarely happens because of the design of the machine and the training that the crew is provided.

If the customer desires, the crew will install a pull rope.
